Consulting
HTTP infrastructure, reverse proxies, and web performance consulting. 700+ open-source contributions to Envoy, Nighthawk, Apache PageSpeed, and Apache Traffic Server.
What we offer
What we do
Reverse proxy architecture, caching, and latency analysis. We work at the layer where HTTP meets the operating system.
Reverse proxy architecture
Design, deployment, and tuning of Envoy, nginx, Apache HTTP Server, and Apache Traffic Server. Connection pooling, load balancing, TLS termination, HTTP/2 and HTTP/3 configuration.
Web performance optimization
Server-side optimization strategies — from image transcoding and resource rewriting to cache policy design. The same domain expertise behind mod_pagespeed and ModPageSpeed 2.0.
Load testing & benchmarking
HTTP load generation, latency characterization, and performance regression detection. Built on experience developing Nighthawk, the Envoy ecosystem's L7 benchmarking tool.
Service mesh performance
Envoy-based service mesh performance analysis, sidecar overhead measurement, and data plane optimization. Contributor to the CNCF Service Mesh Performance project.
C++ systems development
Modern C++ (up to C++23) for high-performance networking software. Lock-free data structures, zero-copy I/O, and Bazel-based build systems for cross-platform native code.
Caching infrastructure
Cache architecture design for HTTP accelerators and content optimization engines. From in-memory LRU to disk-backed tiered caches — including the Cyclone cache library we built from scratch.
Track record
Built on open-source credentials
Direct contribution to the projects behind our products and consulting work: Envoy, Nighthawk, mod_pagespeed, and Apache Traffic Server.
Envoy Proxy & Nighthawk
Emeritus maintainer of envoyproxy/nighthawk, the L7 performance characterization tool in the Envoy ecosystem. Over 300 pull requests authored — the project's largest contributor. Also contributed to Envoy core, including security releases and build system improvements. Co-presented at EnvoyCon 2019 with Google.
Apache PageSpeed
Apache Software Foundation committer and Incubator PMC member for the PageSpeed project. One of five initial committers — alongside Google engineers who created mod_pagespeed. Over 360 pull requests across the mod_pagespeed and ngx_pagespeed codebases. Led release management and maintained ports for nginx, Apache, Envoy, and IIS.
Apache Traffic Server
Contributed major enhancements to the gzip compression plugin and added FastCGI support for Apache Traffic Server. Built ats_pagespeed, a PageSpeed optimization plugin for ATS.
Red Hat — Principal Engineer
Principal Software Engineer at Red Hat, focused on Envoy proxy performance and service mesh data plane optimization. This role led to the Nighthawk and Service Mesh Performance contributions described above.
